The word "maxi" no longer only refers to a flowy, floor length dress; maxi vests, maxi sweaters and maxi shirts, like this sheer floral number from Vince Camuto, are hitting the fashion scene in a very bold way. This gorgeous maxi shirt was featured in a New & Now fashion show put on by Boston Store, and I immediately snatched it up right after the show ended. It's such a "wow" piece, and really doesn't need any accessories since it has so much character and interest in the floral pattern. I paired mine with black liquid leggings and a light blue Calvin Klein heel - even though the maxi shirt doesn't have any blue in the pattern, this works because all of the colors are part of a pastel palette except for the pops of red. If leggings aren't your thing, pair this maxi shirt with black or olive green joggers; the athletic meets feminine vibe will have the compliments flooding your conversation. Vince Camuto has a great selection of maxi shirts, ranging from bold stripes to feminine florals like mine - definitely check it out for a fresh addition to your closet. Happy shopping loves! xoxo

I don't know about you, but I'm SO over winter weather and clothes. I think I probably stand in my closet for a solid 20 minutes before work every morning lately trying to figure out what to wear; I'm sick of wearing sweaters and pants, but it's still too cold for dresses and all of my cute clothes that come along with warmer temperatures. The weather definitely feels like it's starting to transition though (Yay!!), which means I can break out some cute, kind-of-springy outfits. Stripes, which I consider a classic that never goes out of style, are going to be bigger than ever this year. Trust me. And they also give off a spring vibe in my book, especially when paired with bright colors like this green jacket from Relativity! I snagged this jacket at a sample sale at work last summer, but I've already seen many different brightly colored spring jackets in the stores (we're talking bright pinks and blues - and this is just the beginning). I paired my outfit with tan leather booties from Vince Camuto since it's still a little too cold for an open toe, but once the weather warms up, a strappy wedge heel would be perfect with this as well! OH, and the sunnies - can't forget those! I found these this weekend at TJ Maxx, and couldn't believe what a steal they were. I'd never heard of Marilyn Monroe Eyewear before, but I definitely recommend checking out their website for some fun new shades! Jeans and booties linked below. xoxo

The Cape Jacket

Capes have been hugely popular this year, but there's one catch that no one seems to talk about; it is impossible to wear a coat over the top of them! That's where this cape jacket by DKNY enters the scene and solves all of our problems. This style isn't made for the very coldest of winter days, but with warm layers underneath, it is a great statement jacket you can wear throughout the chilly months. I paired mine with this super cozy infinity scarf by Calvin Klein and adorable leather gloves with fur cuffs. Since most cape jackets don't have pockets, a cute pair of gloves or mittens is a necessity. Cape and leather gloves linked below!

Although much delayed, it finally feels like winter in Wisconsin, which means I can break out my new wool coats that I've been so excited to wear! When I first saw this coat, I knew it would eventually be mine. With its gorgeous pale pink color (very similar to rose quartz, which Pantone just named one of the two colors of the year!) and double-breasted gold button detailing, it came off as feminine and unique against a sea of typical black wool and down jackets. It is eye-catching to say the least, and so fun to wear! Other great winter pastels to look for in jackets are light sky blues and lilacs, with J.Crew being a great place to search. They seem to cover the colorful wool coats category very well. Link to this beautiful GUESS jacket below!

The Perfect Fair Isle Sweater

Fair isle sweaters can be a tricky item; it's hard to find pieces with this pattern that don't lean too "ugly sweater" or childish. This jacquard-knit fair isle sweater from H&M is an exception though, and an awesome one at that (especially when it's priced at $19.99!!). The cream and black color palette keep the pattern from becoming overwhelming, and allow the sparkle threads interlaced throughout to really shine without being over the top. The funnel neck and pre-cuffed sleeves add a nice touch as well. I paired mine with faux leather jeggings from Target to create a pop of color; this maroon is perfect for Christmas, but any color would work here. If you're still trying to decide what to wear to holiday family parties, this is a great casual but cute option that will be comfortable all day long!

Buffalo plaids have always been a classic, and this year they are making a huge statement. I've seen this pattern in jackets, tunics, swing dresses, capes...you name it, they have it. I paired my buffalo plaid cape with these fun printed leggings from Ruff Hewn Grey to mix it up a bit; I feel like sometimes I can get lazy and just pair everything with plain black leggings, so this was a good way to branch out! I also belted the cape to add a little shape to my outfit. This was trickier since this cape is so thick (it's so warm though!), but it really adds a more feminine touch so that I wasn't lost in all that fabric. Oh, and you can't forget the fringe! This is one of the more subtle fringe accents of the moment, but you literally can't go wrong with this trend (well maybe you can, but it would be pretty hard). Outfit details below - stock your closet with some plaid and fringe statement pieces. I swear you won't regret it!

With the falling temperatures and light dusting of snow on the ground, it looks like winter is here to stay. Exciting for some, not so exciting for others. I'm personally caught in the middle on how I feel about these cooler temperatures; I can't wait to start wearing my new winter jackets, but don't quite want to give up my summery shoes. A bright side to these colder temps though are the winter-inspired plaids that come along with it, such as this blue and white plaid cardigan from Ann Taylor. I chose to pair it with light wash denim and leather booties for a more casual look, but it can be worn many different ways. Other options include pairing with black leggings and black suede wedge booties, or layering over a pencil skirt and blouse for work.

Bold patterns are definitely a growing trend of the moment. Not only is this sleeveless turtleneck sweater from Ann Taylor Loft perfect for transition weather, but it also captures this trend in a slightly more subtle way, increasing the sweater's versatility in where it can be worn, ranging from work to family gatherings. I chose to pair it with black liquid leggings and booties to dress it up a bit, but for a more casual look, options include layering a fitted denim shirt underneath or wearing with destructed skinny jeans. Since this sweater is meant to be worn oversized though, go with fitted layering pieces to complete the outfit for a well-balanced look.
